In a world where work is sparse $80K to not work sounds good

Apparently, some law firms are offering attorneys large sums of money to defer their acceptance for a year. According to some of the comments posted after this ABA article, accepting that money could compromise their career and it would look bad to have a year of unemployment on their resume. Do you agree? I think that it would be great to not have the pressure of the big firm life and be able to use that time in other ways to advance the legal field while not having to worry about where your next meal is coming from. But I work for the government, so what do I know?!

  1. I would gladly take $40,000 not to work and read nothing but fiction all day with an occasional bowl of bon bons.

  2. I think it would be nice. $80,000 while I reflect on what to do next? Sounds good to me! I also work for the government - and it would take me nearly two years of actual working to earn that.
